I like to start all my layouts in grey scale to get a good idea of the shape and atmosphere of the scene. From there, I like to set a new layer to "color" and test out what pallets look best with the character in place. For this scene, cool purples and greens were chosen o make a spooky forest feeling.
This shot was a collaboration with another animator.
I created the backgrounds for his character in Photoshop and did the compositing and effects After Effects. Lighting the scene was one of the most fun parts because it really gave the the world a sense of atmosphere.
